Democratic members of Congress have put forward a resolution aimed at halting U.S. military operations targeting suspected drug traffickers in the Caribbean and eastern Pacific regions. They argue that these military actions have not received Congressional approval and have led to fatalities without adhering to due process. The lawmakers have expressed concerns that the campaign is contributing to an increasing number of casualties, while failing to demonstrate tangible success. They criticized the current administration for circumventing Congress and are urging a cessation of the military initiative.

In a separate issue, Senator Richard Blumenthal has voiced criticism towards the U.S. Postal Service concerning a new system designed to handle the influx of mail-in ballots in anticipation of the midterm elections. Blumenthal highlighted that issues raised by a whistleblower regarding the system have not been sufficiently addressed. The whistleblower reportedly indicated that technical glitches in the scanning system could lead to entire batches of ballots being dismissed.

The Postal Service has responded by stating that it is in the process of reviewing these concerns. Officials assured that the federal ballot mail system was developed over several months and in compliance with court orders. Despite these assurances, Blumenthal remains unconvinced, insisting that voters need more reliable guarantees that their ballots will be both delivered accurately and counted.

These two separate issues underscore the ongoing debates in the U.S. regarding military engagement without explicit legislative approval and the integrity of the electoral process, particularly concerning mail-in voting. As these discussions continue, both the military operations in question and the postal voting system face scrutiny from lawmakers and other stakeholders.
