During these economic and trade consultations, the eighth of their kind, representatives from both nations engaged in detailed discussions addressing mutual concerns. Notably, they agreed on reciprocal tariff reductions and the establishment of trade and investment councils. These discussions also extended the arrangements made during their previous consultations held in Kuala Lumpur.
A new dimension was added to the talks with the initiation of a dialogue on artificial intelligence under the bilateral economic and trade consultation mechanism. This dialogue was led by Chinese Vice-Premier He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, emphasizing the growing importance of AI in global economic relations.
The agreements reached are expected to strengthen the economic ties between the two countries, with both sides committed to maintaining communication and continuing to work on the agreed arrangements through the existing consultation mechanism. This ongoing collaboration underscores the efforts to address longstanding issues and enhance cooperation in critical areas.
